Milking Best Practices: How to Ensure Hygiene and Maximum Yield

Proper milking technique and hygiene practices are essential for producing high-quality milk and preventing mastitis.

Proper milking practices not only maximise milk yield but also ensure the quality and safety of the milk produced. Here are the best practices followed at AS Dairy:

  • Wash hands thoroughly before milking
  • Clean the udder with warm water and dry with a clean cloth
  • Discard the first few squirts of milk (fore-stripping) to remove bacteria
  • Complete milking within 5-7 minutes
  • Dip teats in disinfectant solution after milking
  • Cool milk to below 10°C within 30 minutes of milking

Following these practices ensures your milk meets quality standards and stays fresh longer.
